Monday’s stocks miss earlier highs, but up sharply into closing bell

November 29, 2011 by Real Estate Investor Comments Off
Diane Alter – AHN News Reporter

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – U.S. stocks cheered strong retail sales over the long Thanksgiving weekend and early forecasts of a strong showing for Cyber Monday with a strong rally.

With less than an hour in the trading day, stocks were off earlier highs but still boasted impressive gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 220 points, the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index added 27 points and the tech heavy NASDAQ jumped 70 points.

Retail sales broke records over the long holiday weekend and early estimates are the Cyber Monday sales are expected to climb 20 percent over last year.

The broad based rally included retailers, financials, and technology shares. Best Buy rose nearly 3 percent. Macy soared almost 5 percent and Apple was better by more than 3 percent.

Also giving stocks room to run was news out of Europe that progress was being made in the ever growing and lengthy euro zone sovereign debt crisis.

While some analysts called the rally a technical bounce and warn markets still face numerous risks, investors welcomed the much needed gains.

Commodities were also strong. Oil rose 88 cents to $97.71 a barrel. Gold closed solidly higher on bargain hunting, rising $29 to $1709 a troy ounce, and silver, the grey metal, closed up $1.08 an ounce to settle the day at $32.06.

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) – It’s “Boardwalk Empire” star Paz de la Huerta versus “The City” and its former star Samantha Swetra. Swetra has officially filed a lawsuit against Paz following their headline-grabbing fight.

Swetra said that Paz punched her and then hit her in the leg with a drinking glass during a party at New York’s Standard Hotel last month. The lawsuit describes it as having been “assaulted, beaten and battered.”

According to TMZ, Swetra says she’s suffered severe physical and emotion injuries, “some of which injuries are permanent in nature.”

The lawsuit doesn’t go into detail as to the injuries, but sources close to the reality star say they include swelling, pain in her nose, and trouble breathing.

She is suing for unspecified damages. Meanwhile, the HBO star appeared in criminal court earlier this week where she was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault and harassment.

Paz de la Huerta is due back in court May 19th.

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Christina Aguilera might be making headlines for her recent arrest, but she’s ready to make it all about “The Voice.” She’s signed on to be a coach for NBC’s upcoming new singing competition.

“The Voice,” which is following in the footsteps of “American Idol” in hiring successful, multi-platinum artists for its panel, sees Aguilera joining previously announced coaches Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine of Maroon 5.

“I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it,” Christina Aguilera said in a statement. “To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists’ careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms.

“I am so happy to be working with fellow Grammy Award winners Adam and Cee Lo as I feel there is so much we can all bring to ‘The Voice,’” she continued.

A total of four coaches will be a part of the “The Voice,” which will see them competing against each other as they bring in their own songwriters, producers and industry pals to help their teams of singers become the winner.

Famed television producer Mark Burnett says Christina was his first choice for a female coach. “When I decided to produce ‘The Voice,’ I immediately knew that my first choice for a female coach had to be Christina Aguilera,” Burnett said in a statement.

“Christina has a perfect voice and is an undeniable force in the music business,” Burnett continued. “She is the epitome of ‘The Voice.’”

“The Voice,” hosted by Carson Daly, premieres on April 26th at 9 pm on NBC.

Anthony Jones – Celebrity News Service Reporter

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Walk, walk, fashion, baby. Lady Gaga debuted a new track from her upcoming “Born This Way” album on the runway of illustrious designer Thierry Mugler.

The remixed version of the track features Gaga repeating a foreign phrase over a club beat and synths (We hear its German or French. Can anyone translate?).

Halfway through, she finally kicks in with an English hook: “I’ll take you out tonight, say whatever you like.” The track is reportedly called “Shiza,” or “Scheibe” in German…which means, well, s—.

Frequent Gaga collaborator Nicola Formichetti was recently named creative director of Thierry Mugler, who she offered up the track for use at their Paris fashion show.

While that was just a taste of what’s to come of new Gaga material, we’ll have to wait for the rest when Gaga finally debuts the first single off her upcoming album next month and the album “Born This Way” on May 23rd.

Secrets To Renting Homes Faster For More Money: Advertising Part 2, (Third In A Series)

December 15, 2009 by Real Estate Investor Comments Off

In a previous article in this series on how to rent houses fast for more money we talked about why simply advertising on the free websites is not enough. What you say and where you say it are both important.

There are a number of reasons for this, but if you are looking to fill a vacant rental house fast, the first thing you must do is get noticed. You have to get the attention of the prospect. Advertising people have described the entire process of advertising effectively and shortened the process to AIDA.

First you absolutely must get the prospects Attention. Then make them Interested and create Desire. Then they must Act. To get the prospect to rent your vacant house fast and for more money you must first get their attention.

This is not an easy job. You are competing with thousands of other advertisements in sites like Craigslist and your ad must stand out. It must attract attention, gain the interest of the viewer, surfer and create desire. Once you have done that you need the call to action, which is to CALL YOU.

The Headline and the copy must stress BENEFITS, not features, and must be written from the prospective renter’s point of view. You must care about what it is that they want, not what you have to sell.

In my search for the secrets to renting houses fast for more money, I pulled together information learned in advertising class from my days in journalism school and a variety of psychological, marketing and sales researach as to why people buy and how they make those decisions in discovering how to construct advertising that gets results.

Amazingly we found research data from other fields showing that often price is not the key element, allowing you to rent houses faster and for more money if you follow these guide lines.

You need to offer a product that will at least appear to be different and uniquely better than the competition. We solved this for ourselves by developing the Famous Rent to Own on Steroids Program?. While the name is trademarked, the process is easily ripped off.

Be sure to list your unique benefit in the headline of your ads and keep in mind that the large search engines like Google and Yahoo will go through the listings on Craigslist and Backpage, so you want to use the key words that will get you noticed by persons doing a search on Google or Yahoo.

Put yourself in the shoes of a person looking for a rental in the area where you have a house and think what words they are searching. You need to have as many searchable key words in your headline as possible even if readability suffers.

Jam the headline with words stressing benefits and location of your house for rent even if it does not read like normal English. “No Qualify, Rent to Own, Pretty Home, Huge Fenced Yard, Pets OK, Near Gulf Beaches” will attract more interest than “You’ll Love this 3 bedroom Pretty Home in New Port Richey,” even though the second headline reads like real English.

Stress content, searchable keywords and benefits.

You do not want to waste valuable headline space with words like three bedroom, two bath as these elements appear in other parts of the classified ads. Simply saying “Rent to Own” is a waste because it does not take full advantage of all of the space that is available in the headline.

Here are some of the things that will help. Use unique pictures that arouse curiosity and use video. Tell the prospective tenant why they will want to live in your house. Remember it is all about THEM.

Stress the benefits to them . . . and they will CALL
